Community Service

Mission:

Identify U. S. Armed Forces active duty and reserve component veterans and their families in need of assistance not available from the Department of Defense or the Veterans Administration. Validate their need for assistance and serve as a "clearing house", coordinating assistance with federal, state and local community organizations. Priority is given to those called to engage in armed conflict since 2001.

Vision:

Supporting the needs of U.S. Armed Forces active duty and reserve component veterans and their families at the community level.

How We Will Help

The Foundation will be a central communication point for assistance requests. If you or your family has a challenge or are in need of resources, you can directly contact us through our website or our phone number (1) 877-99-4VETS (8387). Through a vast network of non-profit and state veterans organizations, we will immediately put you in touch with a volunteer veteran who will exclusively work with you on your problem. Here are some examples of how we've helped our veterans.

What the future holds

May 2007 was the beginning of this program, The pilot was successfully conducted in Frederick County Maryland. The program is now being expanded Maryland-wide with email distribution to all active duty and reserve forces service members from 9/11 forward with the assistance of the Department of Defense and Maryland's Department of Veterans Affairs. Participating veteran's posts should be established in all 24 Maryland Counties by the Fall of 2009.

Donations are our life blood

Can you help us support veterans' financial needs? As established in Frederick County, all donations received from Frederick County residents were only distributed to service members who reside in Frederick County or are stationed in Frederick County. To begin seeking statewide donations, a "Donate Your Car" program was successfully tested in Frederick County and we are now in the process of expanding statewide with the same rules – all donations received from a specific county will be distributed in that specific county and can be claimed as in IRS tax deduction. Car do-nations can be made state-wide by calling (1) 800-638-1234. If you know of anyone who is a candidate to donate please share this information with them.

Additional fund raising programs to support our projected requests for financial assistance are in current plans and will be announced in the future. In the interim if you would like to make a tax deductible cash donation please make your check out to Major General Boyd M. Cook Veterans Memorial Foundation, Inc. and mail it to:
